Fireplaces for All-Season Rooms

What separates an all-season room from a sunroom? Climate control. While a sunroom is pleasant only when temperatures are moderate, the right heating and cooling options keep your all-season room as enjoyable in December as it is in June. And what is absolutely the most pleasurable and romantic way to heat a room? You guessed it: a fireplace.

Luxurious All-Seasons Room With OWS Manchester Mantel

At Old World Stoneworks, we can’t imagine a cozier Sunday afternoon in November than sitting by a warm fire in a cozy armchair in our all-season room, lowering our book to gaze out the huge window at a deer strolling by in the snow.

Choose your Focus

The distinctive feature of an all-season room is different than the rest of the house. Since the walls are mostly windows, the focus is outside. Your all-season room might be oriented to take in a view of a garden or other natural feature, such as a lake. Some all-season rooms have glass ceilings for star-gazing.

Which brings us to the question, how much attention do you want to draw to the fireplace? A fireplace is always a perfect focal point for any room. Do you want to maintain a firm focus on the outdoors, and make the fireplace as unobtrusive as possible? Or, do you want to keep furnishings simple and play up the fireplace? This choice will dictate the size of the fireplace, and the simplicity or ornateness of the mantel.  In the first image on the right, the fireplace is very neutral and blends seamlessly with the back wall.  All furniture is arranged facing away from the fireplace and instead faces across the room to the opposite windows.  The Wilshire Stone Mantel in the second photograph takes up a good portion of the wall and while some chairs are angled away, some of the other seating options face the fireplace directly, drawing your attention to the warm fire just as much as green backdrop outside.

What’s Outside

Instead of matching your fireplace to the furnishings, coordinate the couch or art pieces with the view outside of your all-seasons room. If your home is in a more neutral climate, try something like this OWS customer did with the Fremont Mantel and leave a side of your all-season room open to a view of your backyard tropical oasis complete with palm trees! They took the tropical backdrop and incorporated it into their décor with the leaf ceiling fan and area rug.  The wood on the ceiling gives the open room a cozy feel while the neutral green and taupe of the furniture, keeps focus on the bright green of the trees and sparkling blue pool in the backdrop.
