FAQs

How do I order a fireplace mantel, range hood or overmantel?
If you’re ordering any of our standard sized products, shop online and purchase directly from the website! If you need custom sizing, fill out our custom order quote request or call our office and we will draft a quote with the cost of the product, optional items, any customizing, the crate, and shipping to your job site. When you are ready for us to start your order just send in the deposit.

Are there any costs other than the product itself?
Yes, there is a crating charge of $350 per crate. A typical fireplace mantel requires only one crate, however, several of the large products require two crates. Hearths can be packaged, in most cases, within the one mantel crate. There is a freight cost which varies according to location and the weight of the product chosen.

Who installs the fireplace mantel, range hood or overmantel?
A stonemason is the best choice to install our quality cast stone products. A technician from our office is always available to offer technical support in the installation of any of our products. You can also visit our Videos page to see instructional videos for everything from install to cleaning and grouting.

How are products installed?
All products arrive as separate stones and are anchored to the wall and mortared together. Visit our Videos page to see mantel and range hood installation videos.

What is the Old World Stoneworks products made of?
Each product is made of real cast stone, a man-made limestone process that has been around over 600 years. This is a labor intensive process, but it’s worth it for the finished product is so similar to cut limestone its hard to tell the difference and the price is a fraction of the cost of cut limestone. No finish is required. Cast stone is a non-combustible product and can be used directly next to the firebox opening or above stoves. This eliminates the need and cost of other interior surrounds that are required with a wood or plaster mantel.

Is there a finish required?
No. Our cast stone has a “honed limestone” finish. It can be antiqued, faux finished or distressed to give it the patina of age. Sealing is highly recommended since all limestone is porous and subject to staining. Any high quality, clear, matte finish stone sealer may be used.

Who designed your mantels, range hoods and overmantels?
All products are designed by Old World Stoneworks and should not be confused with imitations.

Custom Sizing
If the mantel, range hood or overmantel you desire does not appear to fit your specifications, call us. Often we are able to alter our products in such a manner that we retain the integrity of the design while fitting your individual needs. We will also be happy to give you a bid on your own custom design if you so choose.

Are there different colors?
We carry three colors, white, cream and buff. Any product can be made in either color. The most commonly chosen color is white. There is a $250 fee for the White. And a $150 fee for the buff.

Do you offer samples?
Because of color variations in lighting and photography, you are encouraged to request a sample of the cast stone material to ensure your satisfaction. These samples are from the exact same cast stone used in making our products and are absolutely free!

What is the lead time for my mantel, overmantel or range hood?
Allow 6 to 8 weeks for production of your product. Please let us know if you are in a rush and we will do whatever we can to accommodate your time frame.

How are products delivered?
Our products are manufactured in Dallas, TX and shipped by common carrier to almost everywhere in the continental United States. Your truck driver will not take the crate off the truck for you. We always ask that the trucking company use a lift-gate truck for delivery, but this is not always possible, so please have 2 or 3 men ready to unload the crate(s) from the trucker’s tailgate. In rare cases where the location is remote or in residential areas that do not allow large trucks the customer may have to arrange secondary delivery. If you are not ready for shipment from our factory at the date specified on your invoice, we can hold your order up to four weeks, provided the order is paid in full.

Is there a warranty?
Yes. Old World Stoneworks products are warranted to be free from defect, except those color variations typical to cast stone. Any defective products will be replaced. Each Old World Stoneworks order is considered to be a custom product. By placing orders by phone one of our professional staff can talk directly to you, the buyer, and walk you through the many unique options available assuring you of the best application possible.

What happens if the shipment arrives with broken pieces?
All claims on apparent or concealed shipping damage to products must be reported to Old World Stoneworks within 7 days of delivery. Old World Stoneworks will replace any broken stones to you at no charge usually within 7-10 days. Please save all broken stones and all packaging material so we can make a claim with the freight company.
