The Versatility of Our Surrounds

While Old World Stoneworks is widely known for our mantel surrounds and range hoods, sometimes we like to get even more creative and stretch the versatility of our products. So today we’re going to talk about door frames.

Bear with us as we get a tad ethereal. Doors and doorways have long been symbolic all around the world, figuring in folk and religious traditions. It makes sense, since doors involve a literal moving from one space into another. In many cultures, grooms carry brides over thresholds. An Irish Christmas custom requires leaving the door unlatched after the evening meal to show hospitality. A Chinese New Year tradition calls for flinging doors open at midnight to let the old year out. And then there’s a Catholic tradition of holy doors through which pilgrims enter special cathedrals, such as in the Vatican.

At OWS, we’ve experimented with this idea by adapting some of our mantel surrounds to become door surrounds. We’ve also done some experimenting with interior door surrounds. Since it’s an interior door, we kept it a little simpler than an exterior entrance, but we still think it makes a statement as you transition from one inside space to another.

While we won’t be launching a full-blown line of door surrounds anytime soon, we love creating custom pieces like these, to bring our customers’ visions to life. We think you’ll agree there are a lot of possibilities for exquisite entryway statements by lengthening the legs of many of our mantels.
