Breathe New Life into Household Goods
Did you turn your lights out yesterday in observance of Earth Day? If you lived in the light, don’t fret. You can have opportunities to show your home planet love every day of the year by doing a few simple things like recycling, reusing and now, upcycling!
If you’ve already spring cleaned, are in the process of doing so, or are about to get started, pay attention to things you may think are trash. Have a broken mirror? Turn it into a masterpiece instead of tossing it. Upcycling is the art of taking something you already have and upgrading it to be reused for its initial function or something else altogether. This season, it’s your chance to grab some paint, a hot glue gun or whatever else you have lying around and breathe new life into old things.
Decorating Your Mantel
Like most of us, you probably have an inordinate number of mugs and these days, mason jars. Instead of throwing out your extras, consider using them as decorations by bringing a few key pieces together.
Our Normandy cast-stone mantel features versatile and clean lines that are ready for your personal touch. Add your style by using things you already own to decorate your mantel.  Add some pizazz to beautiful or even memorable wine bottles by using them as candle holders. Find an old frame, large or small, and add your favorite fabric to create an above-mantel masterpiece. Help fake flowers bloom into reality by spraying them with a little clear acrylic gloss to make them shine and seem even more real. And last but not least, did you find yourself inheriting quite a bit of silverware? Moving from one roommate to another, then getting silverware for yourself and maybe some from your family can add up to a lot of extra kitchenware. If you want to keep them, consider turning things like plates and flatware into outstanding .
